김지영은 누구나 접근하기 쉬운 미술 재료인 수채 물감으로 몽환적이고도 신비로운 분위기를 그린다. 세밀하게 겹쳐지는 물감은 수채의 산뜻한 색감은 가지고 깊이 있는 질감까지 표현한다. 이는 상식적인 작업 방식은 아니지만 그로 인해 어디에 서도 볼 수 없는 작품의 독특함을 만든다. 반복적인 물감을 올리는 작업은 부드럽고도 깊은 고유한 색감을 만든다. 작품 감상의 거리에 따라 보였다가 사라지기를 반복하는 선들을 따라가면 공간감을 또 다른 세계를 느낄 수 있다. 작품을 보는 방향과 거리 또는 빛에 따라 다르게 보인다. 반짝거리면서 화려하게도 보였다가 각도나 빛에 따라 깊이가 느껴지는 공간감으로 색다르게 볼 수 있는 것은 펄 물감의 특성을 살린 고유한 기법 때문이다. ‘ 내게 그림을 그린다는 것은 그 위에 치밀하게 더 날카롭게 때론 부드럽게 써나가는 상태를 말한다.’

Kim Ji-young paints a dreamy and mysterious atmosphere with watercolors, an art material that is easy for anyone to access. The paints that are closely overlapped each other express the deep texture with fresh colors of the watercolors. This is not a common-sense way of working, but it results in the uniqueness of the artworks that are nowhere to be seen. Repeated work of raising paint creates unique colors that are soft and deep. If you follow the lines that repeatedly show and disappear according to the distance of appreciation of the artworks, you can feel the sense of space in another world. The paintings can be seen differently depending on the direction, distance, or light of the artworks. The reason why they can be seen as sparkling and colorful, but can be seen differently with the sense of space that can be felt depending on the angle or light is because of the unique technique that makes use of the characteristics of pearl paints. “To draw a picture for me means to write on it more precisely and sharply, sometimes smoothly.”
