신재흥의 작품에는 현대 사회에서 점점 잊혀져가는 황토빛 고향의 정서가 펼쳐져 있어 잔잔한 감흥을 되살려준다.자작나 무가 가득한 아름다운 풍경을 주로 화폭에 담아 온 신화백은 있는 그대로, 보이는 그대로 우리네 고향 이웃들의 이야기를 담담하게 바라보고 있다. 영하 20 도 ~ 30 도의 혹한을 얇은 껍질 하나로 버티는 자작나무. 추운 겨울을 버텨내는 그 모습은 그 어떤 것보다 아름다운 장관을 연출한다. 강원도 인제의 자작나무 숲을 보고 감명을 받아 자작나무를 그리는 작가는 지금까지 1 천 5 백 점 이상의 자작나무를 그렸다. 붓이 아닌 나이프로 그린 나무는 거친 듯 정갈한 모습으로 관람객의 마음을 편안하게 만든다. 이와 같이 일상적인 표정을 화폭에 담아내며 신 화백은 이웃과의 교감을 이루고 소박한 고향의 향수를 잔잔하게 전하고 있다.

Shin Jae-heung’s work brings back a calm inspiration as the sentiment of his hometown, which is increasingly forgotten in modern society, unfolds. Shin, who has mainly captured beautiful scenes full of self-cultivation and radish on a canvas, calmly looks at the stories of our hometown neighbors as they are and as they appear. A birch tree that withstands the freezing temperatures of minus 20 to 30 degrees Celsius with a thin shell. The appearance of enduring the cold winter creates a more beautiful spectacle than anything else. The artist, who was impressed by the birch forest in Inje, Gangwon-do, has drawn more than 1,500 birch trees so far. The tree drawn with a knife, not a brush, makes the audience comfortable with its rough and clean appearance. By capturing the daily expression on the canvas, Shin has established communication with his neighbors and calmly conveys the nostalgia of his humble hometown.
