‘꿈꾸는 의자’를 그리는 작가 이은주는 일상에서 쉽게 볼 수 있는 의자를 테마로 작품 활동을 한다. 작가는 ‘ 의자’에 인류의 시간과 역사가 존재한다고 말한다. 일상의 모든 공간에는 의자가 있으며, 사람들은 그 의자 위에서 일하고, 휴식하고, 소통 한다. 이은주는 삶의 가장 밀접한 공간에 위치하는 의자에는 앉는 사람의 인생이 녹아있다고 말하며, 자신이 그리는 의자는 ‘사람’에 대한 탐구와 그들의 꿈을 상징한다고 한다. 작가는 유화 물감을 얇고 매끈하게 올려 의자의 표면을 섬세하게 표현한다. 의자가 놓여있는 공간의 하늘은 투명하게 빛나 는 색으로 칠해져 작품에 초현실성을 더한다. ‘내게 그림을 그린다는 것은 그 위에 치밀하게 더 날카롭게 때론 부드럽게 써나가는 상태를 말한다.’

Lee Eun-ju

‘The Dreaming Chair’ Lee Eun-ju works on chairs that can be easily seen in everyday life. The artist says that there is human time and history in the chair. Every space in daily life has a chair, and people work, relax, and communicate on it. Lee Eun-ju says that the chair, which is located in the closest space of life, has the life of the person who sits in it, and that the chair she draws symbolizes her exploration of people and their dreams. The artist delicately expresses the surface of the chair by raising oil paints thin and smooth. The sky of the space where the chair is placed is painted with a transparent shining color, adding surrealism to the work. ‘Drawing a picture for me is a state of writing on it, precisely, sharper, and sometimes gently.’
